Kathy Anderson’s plays have been produced in New York, Philadelphia, and Arizona and received staged readings in Chicago and New York . Her full-length play, The Meatpackers Book Club, received its world premiere in May 30 – June 14, 2009 , directed by Bill Felty, with Philadelphia Theatre Workshop, at Walnut Street Theatre Studio 5 in Philadelphia, PA.
Incoming, a full-length comedy, had a world premiere in 2007 with Philadelphia Theatre Workshop and went on to win the Queer Women’s Play Contest with Bloody Unicorn Theatre Company and production in Arizona.
Incoming was selected for the International Centre for Women Playwrights 2007 Chicago HER-RAH: A Festival of the World’s Best Women Playwrights and Their New Plays and the TOSOS II Robert Chesley/Jane Chambers Playwright Project in New York City in 2008.
Girls Like Tulips, a full-length drama, was commissioned in 2008 by Nice People Theatre Company in Philadelphia. Tempting, a full-length drama, received a staged reading in the 2008 Philadelphia Theatre Workshop PlayShop Festival.
Her short stories have been published in magazines, journals, and anthologies. “You Are the Bad Smell” was nominated for a Pushcart Prize in 2008 by The Apple Valley Review. “Cheesesteak Heaven” was published by Philadelphia Stories in 2006 and selected for The Best of Philadephia Stories anthology in 2007. "Dip Me in Honey and Throw Me to the Lesbians," published in The Barcelona Review, Issue 72, 2010 was nominated for 2011 Pushcart Prize
Her non-fiction essays and articles have been published in national magazines, including The Advocate and Jane and Jane.
Her poetry has been published in magazines, journals, and anthologies, including Proposing on the Brooklyn Bridge: Poems About Marriage (Grayson Books, 2003) and Slant, A Journal of Poetry.
She is the recipient of a New Jersey State Council on the Arts fellowship and was admitted to The Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference. She is currently Artistic Associate and Board Member at Philadelphia Theatre Workshop.
Kathy Anderson is a member of the Theatre Alliance of Greater Philadelphia and the Dramatists Guild.
